Spring into Action with HUCTW

2009 Visibility Campaign

Our Union is organizing a visibility effort on the theme “Staff, Not Stuff.”
All across the Harvard campus, HUCTW members and friends will be expressing support for the idea that the University’s skillful and hard-working people should be the highest priority in this time of economic difficulty.

It is time to work together and have our concerns seen and heard as widely as possible.
We are asking all members of our community to show support through the month of March in one or more of the following ways:

  • Make the “Staff, Not Stuff” design your computer desktop wallpaper
  • Print a copy (on recycled paper, please) and post it in your work area or in a common area
  • Use the slogan and a link to www.huctw.org in your email signature
  • Use the image as your Facebook or other social networking profile photo
  • Any other creative visibility ideas you can invent!

March and April are the critical months in budgetary decision-making.
In the next six weeks, many University units will be considering hard choices and making decisions that will shape our work environment for the next year or more. It should be completely clear that thousands of HUCTW members and friends care about those outcomes and believe strongly that the University’s people are the source of its greatness.

Harvard schools and departments should focus first on slowing down and scaling back construction projects; reducing consulting, outside catering, and travel budgets; and investing in energy conservation and employee wellness.

Layoffs should be a last resort.   Harvard Works Because We Do.
